QUESTING is live on Reborn

With this next iteration we have added in new hero classes, QUESTING, and a bunch of operations and spells for you to play with. Many tweaks, optimizations, and bug fixes (especially in battle engine) have been applied as well!

Big thanks to Jaap Moolenaar (Satsume) for his JQuery work (those cool little popups that show messages or county news updates). Even more will soon follow =)

After much, much, much work we finished the next iteration and will be dumping all of the improvements/additions to the Reborn server!

Among the newest additions are:

- BATTLE ENGINE (this will be fun)
- Caravans
- Mercenary Camp
- Black Market
- All Human researches/structures have been implemented
- Hero class streams and stats have been implemented
- All Human units are implemented
- Equipment have stats now

Plus many other changes and tweaks. Check em out this weekend ;)

Next iteration of Reborn is LIVE

Alright, we have added the following major areas:

- Temple (including GODS which are implemented)
- Blacksmith (including almost 300 items so far!)
- Storage areas for County and Heroes
- Ability to equip items to your hero
- Hero skills implemented (so dual wield skill allows you to equip dual weapons etc)
- A couple new events and a majorly updated event system, if you have any events you want added just send us a story and we'll add it in the next iteration
- Most of the research tree is implemented now
- Structure tree is done and mostly implemented
- Tons more tweaks and changes that I don't feel like listing

Lots of progress has been made, and we are excited to release even more! Also know, sometimes we will add things and NOT announce it. This is to encourage exploration of the game!

As Reborn grows so too will the random and unknown portions of it ;)



Warshire Reborn Alpha is OPEN

After years of waiting, stewing, brooding, and generally kicking the dust, you are invited to join a limited Alpha release of Warshire Reborn.

Global account sign ups are open to all, but there are a limited number of in-game spots. At this point we are set to have two kingdoms open with 15 accounts per kingdom. This may be subject to change, but if you are intent on being in the first Alpha testing group, you should sign up immediately.

While this is a Warshire Reborn release, we wish to remind all participants that this is for testing and balance purposes and scores will not be saved. The game is not complete by any means and all input or constructive criticism is welcome. The testers will be given a private board in the public forums but they should feel free to contact the Staff directly through private messages or e-mails.

Ok guys, we have finally put up something that you can all help us with!

Wikishire will be used for both Warshire Classic and Warshire Reborn for a manual, and we need help from whoever is willing.

For now, we should move the existing classic manual into this new wiki (and nicely fomat/reference everything) and then later on we can start filling out Reborn.

Reset Tonight

Tonight I will reset the round and setup the Good vs Evil round. To recap the following will be changed for the next round:

- Disable invites, random joinups (of course, people will try to get around this, we trust the players to be watching the news for kingdom jumpers .. we will let them build up a bit and then delete them)

- Disable diplomacy, no point for that round right?

- Subs stay disabled, again no point

- 50 slots per kingdom (in case we need them, who knows =p)

- Will move players as we see fit to balance the odds if they are too slanted

- This will be a shorter round than usual, depending how long the one side holds one

Basically, for those of you who didn't read the 'Good vs Evil' topic under Game Discussion on the forums, we are creating only 2 kingdoms next round. We will try to mediate the power players into separate kingdoms, at least as best we can =p

New OFFICIAL round after host upgrade

This is just to let you guys know, since the host upgrades will cause things to go a little wacky around here for a while I'm going to be starting a new round right afterwards.

Also, worth noting is that this new round will be called Beta 9 and the high scores will be saved! What makes this round unique is that I will be disabling county subdues, which is something that alot of people have wanted to try.

I'll be sending out a newsletter when the signups open

The next mini-round will have only 10 kingdoms, this means at most 150 players can be in the next round. What else this means is that you should have a much fuller kingdom, and at least a couple more actives ;)

You may have noticed the adsense google banner appear on the index here and also the ingame index. I signed up for it to help with hosting costs (since I am an oh so very poor student).

I won't ever let my games get overrun with banner ads and NEVER will I let them have those extremely annoying splash ads (that cover portions of the screen).

I just wanted to let you know this is about as advertised as warshire is gonna get =p

Is currently under heavy design, I just wanted to let you guys know that since its been ages of silence.

It WILL proceed, and I am extremely excited for it. I'm about 65% done the database design, and about 30% done functions. While it is far from finished, I am making some serious headway

Just think guys, mercenaries... random cool units.. experience for units.. its gonna be awesome ;)

However, I can't promise a date, its a 'its done when its done' deal. So don't get 'too' excited.

When I finish the database design and functions I'll begin work on the site itself. Shortly thereafter I'll need some Alpha testers, I will ANNOUNCE when testers are needed so please don't message me that you will test before then.. I probably won't remember.

Long story short someone used blahblah's account (or he just went nuts and did it himself) to delete about 200 member accounts and delete all the posts.

Just to give everyone a level playing field while the admin team continues to work on updates (or actually, tries to get time to work on updates) we have started a mini-round

Ticks are 10 minutes (so half the regular tick time) meaning a much faster round where the tables can turn so much faster.

Once the new round is ready and good to go ticks will return to 20 minutes after a quick reset.

NO SCORES ARE SAVED FROM THIS MINI ROUND, it's a good chance to experiment, be a total warmonger, or try some insane strategy you wouldn't dare try under normal circumstances ;)

Beta 7 Signups Open!

There is a new option now, called 'Found Kingdom'. Initially ALL kingdoms are nameless and unfounded, but can still be randomly joined.

If you wish to 'reserve' a kingdom choose this option and name your kingdom and set your password, this will not use an invite and you will be placed in an unfounded kingdom (it starts founding at kingdom 1, and goes up from there) which will then be named and password protected. Keep in mind random people can still join your kingdom.

Once all kingdoms have been claimed/named/founded, you can no longer found kingdoms.

Aside from that, a complete list of balance changes will be posted once I am done them. The signup period will last, as always, a full day.

This Beta 6 round will be ended on April 18, 2006. Balance changes will be implemented, minor changes will be made, and signups should hopefully be open within a day.

Beta 7 will, if all goes according to plan, be the last Beta. If we can balance stuff right and Beta 7 gets some good turnout, I would like to add another race to the mix for Round 1.

OK I cut out a few modifications from the ToDo list in favor of an early reset, all the major updates are done and uncountable changes/mods. Its psycho.

Beta 5 Signups Open!

Alright here is a breakdown of most of the changes made for Beta 5, there will be more added during the beginning of the round as well.. but what is listed has already been added
- Invites disabled as well as kingdom creation, may be introduced at a later round. Currently there are 25 kingdoms, 10 spots each. More will be introduced as required.
- Equipment updated, now certain weapons (mainly spells) can summon creatures to assist your hero in battle
- New equipment introduced and several older equipments updated
- Base hero experience for attacking raised to 2,000
- Knight's Attack cut in half
- Classes now level in 1,000 experience intervals (same as character level)
- Posts per page in kingdom forums increased to 15
- KPS changed so you can only hit people within 1/3 your power range
- Numerous Hero systems updated, could cause some instability but in the end will be better ;)
- Kingdoms start with 5,000,000 gold in the fund
- Many tweaks and security updates

Alright Warshire will be reset this weekend on Sat. (June 26th). Signups will be open Sunday and the game will start Monday (at least in my timezone)

Also, aside from this reset Warshire has a need of a few staff positions:

(2) Warshire Historian positions are available, if you wish to apply you NEED to send us a sample history of this round (by 'us' I mean an admin) Historians will be primarily responsible for writing up round summaries and stories, they also may be asked to write up side-stories.

(1-2) Artist positions are available, these aren't required but it would be great to have them... especially if we want to remake the in-game layout =o To apply for this position send some samples of your drawings to an Admin =)

Alright the round is over and the scores have been saved in the Archives! Good job to the top players and good try to everyone else ;) Hope you enjoyed it (at least somewhat lol) because the next round signups are scheduled for Sunday, and with the new round will come a completely new battle engine with new unit balances. There are several tweaks and balancing changes that I will post when the round signups are opened... Also MESSAGE ME WITH KINGDOM NAMES/PASSWORDS if you want a kingdom reserved for you, as I have posted in the Kingdom Recruitment forums kingdom creation no longer exists. This is to allow truly even random seeding, and as such all kingdoms are precreated. If you want a kingdom name/password that you and your friends can 'join' (you have 6 invites per kingdom) message me or its your loss! Good luck!

Alright I have saved the scores, disabled the signups, disabled death by debt (so dont worry about upkeep)... and lastly but certainly not least, I have given each and every player 1,000,000 Knights, Siege Archers, and Wizards.

Have at it, the round will most likely reset in a week or so ;)



Tournaments and Challenges

Alright I have scripted, tested (with the help of Ultramar [Tournament Manager], Happy, and Dag), and completed Tournaments and Challenges (both located within the Arena)!

Tournaments are basically a series of 'Bouts' between heroes, you can register and join a tournament if there is room in a Bout somewhere (when a tournament is first started all the bouts are open). There will be a registration fee per hero, you can register as many heroes in a tournament as you want (or have). Keep in mind some tournaments WILL have requirements (some for higher class heroes others for lower class etc) so you will not be able to enter them all.

In tournaments you can gain rewards of wealth and fame, as well as earn medals to prove you won. You gain wins and losses in the tournament that affect where your hero stands on the scoreboard as well as having it show up in both your Hero Overview and in your Arena profile. It may take some time to get used to, but for those that want to compete this is definitely the addition you have been waiting for! ;)

Challenges are basically a single hero sent with a message from you to whatever county you are challenging, the targetted county can either accept the challenge or deny it. If accepted then whatever hero the targetted county chooses to meet your challenge will do battle with the hero you sent and the winner will gain a point to their Challenge Wins (similar to Tournament Wins) and the loser gains a Challenge Loss (as well as the humiliation of being owned xD).

Thanks to Dagnarille we now have IRC for Warshire, you can access it via the link on the sidebars. Read the rules and follow them, or we shall use our mighty mod powers to smite you >=o

Also I have updated equipment so it works under a new and improved storage system, also I moved Amulets and made them an article you can wear (rather than a weapon) and in its place Wands are now a magical weapon. Shields have been added now as well, but dont try to use a Shield and two-handed weapon simultaneously =p

Oh yeah, and HAPPY NEW YEARS !! =D

Ok I am going to devote a few hours today to Warshire, even if it kills me.

So I will reset at some point (most likely after I add a couple minor things) and there will be a 24 hour signup period. After that, the game will begin.

Orcs have not been added (sorry), but I hope to have quests completed during the 24 hour signups or soon afterwards. After which there is only the arena and I can start prepping areas for Orcs (such as the battle engine etc, which I plan on doing some major updates to.. and changing the entire battle method)

Anyways, just a heads up ;)

Pages are still being turned over into the new layout, but everything should work. The only things that should be wrong are the alignments of some pages, which I'll have to get Hawk and Happy to fix :P

Alright, since all the big players like doing is bash the little players I have thought up a temporary solution ;)

Warshire will hold a sort of contest, more of a grand war...

What it will be, is all counties above 1 million Power are elligible for this prize, the prize is a personalized legendary equipment item (which you can ask to recieve at the beginning of each round)

I have yet to finish the rewards system but when completed you will be given a winner's password which allows you to claim equipment/awards gained from previous rounds.

What is the catch with this contest? Basically this, nobody gets a prize unless there are two or less counties over 1,000,000 Power. So team up with a buddy or a dozen and start taking down the other large counties. If you manage to pull it off and you and your buddy are the only ones over 1,000,000 Power by the time I get my Laptop and finish humans/add orcs (which could be a while =p) then you get a rewards password which will give you each a piece of personalized legendary armor (or if you kill your friend then you get 2 pieces =) )

Today I finally updated the structures prices, the ones that arent updated yet havent been finalized in planing yet so I cant effectivly put in a price. This wont be the last update to the prices obviously, and no bitching about the prices. Get to the stage to build them before you complain.

If your account is missing it is most likely due to a database backup I was forced to restore as a result from a bug in the ticker (which screwed up maaaany accounts).

I apologise for this inconvenience, however I was able to keep most accounts intact. If your account was demolished and you were rather powerful Post in the fourms

Warshire Reset!

Alright I have reset Warshire, now I am changing alot of stuff around, adding little things here and there... tweaking it, and so on.

I did ALOT of work on the admin side of things, so we have more power over you =o lol

Anyways, signups will be open tomorrow (August 22) at 3:00 PM Central Time. If not exactly then it is most likely because I was unable to get to the computer in time =p But bottom line signups are going to be open tomorrow afternoon, signups will last 24 hours after which the ticker will automatically kick in and the game will be underway =)

FINALLY transferred

Ok the DNS is finally done propogating and we are moved to the new host! =)

We had some issues with the extremely stressed out ticker (had to catch up on 5 days of updates... and timed out =p) but it was resolved

You will notice you have ALOT of gold, partially as a result of the ticker problem and also partially as a result of sitting for 5 days lol

Now that we moved I will be changing the ticker to a cronjob based ticker (sometime), much more reliable as well ;)

Transfering Hosts

Ok Fawcett Software is moving =o Our current host is unable to continue to host us to we are moving, it will almost quadruple our space and add 20 Gigs to our monthly bandwidth allowance (which is good =))

I will transfer all the files over to the new webspace today, but once I update the DNS Warshire will be inaccessible for up to 24 hours... So yeah, just letting you all know xD

Thats right, we are resetting! On May 24, 2004 our databases will be wiped and Warshire will be open grounds for any new monarchs to begin their reigns of terror ;)

If you started late in this round you hopefully gained some experience at the game which will give you an edge in the upcoming Alpha stage =o Maybe Dark Realm will be bowing to YOU xD

I still need to fix it up a little and make it easier to read and abit more visually pleasing(lol). Some of the text will also be updated as hawk adds new code. And Delita and Hawk may fix up any mistakes I might have made :P, but i doubt there's many :)

Just wanted to say that its nice to see alot of new people signing up for the game and for the forums.

At the moment there's not to many people on the forums, but hopefully, like Delita asked, everyone will spread the word to their friends about Warshire and we will have many more people joining us.

Whoooa, I hate yet love it.. I have a mediocre engine running with some bugs to work out... but you can now attack those you don't like =) Remember though, it is still under construction. The news I am setting up now, and next will setup the ticker to return your attack group home... oh, and a word of warning, make sure you have your hero set to 'Defending' instead of 'Idle' or ppl can steal your land (if you have no soldiers sitting around, if they are all assigned elsewhere hehe)

PS HAHAHAHAAAHAHAAA I did what I always threatened! I HAVE DEFEATED HAPPY HOUR BAHAHAAHAaaaaAAa... he is the first casualty of this game =) (cuz he self-deleted, but thats all good... since dead-checks have yet to be scripted)

New Stuff

I have added a pile of new stuff and fixed up a few bugs... Here are the new additions :D

1. Online Status now is made :o
2. Added short ticker (ever 10 minutes, although for development it has been sped up to 5 minutes same as hourly is sped up to 30 minutes)
3. Scores, now you can see Power of your county or of your kingdom and they are also ranked on the 'Scores' page

I hope you all enjoy the additions, I will be gone for this weekend to a youth gathering so I won't be able to work on Warshire anymore till Monday. For fixes I fixed the mine bug (loss of gold and quarry mines) and the irregular ticker bug, and a few other not-so-serious tweaks here and there.

I have added in the forums on game balancing issues and some future updates you will see. I have also added the use of the prison and also the final resting places of where the games income will be. This will remain a free game to the users, but after I get a paypal up I would hope for some donations as well as hopefully some affiliates, its going to be like 5$ a month for now maybe even a quarter depending on the progress of the game. e-mail me if you are interested in advertising with us! Now finished 2/3 goals :p bahahaaa, but again... Kenny fiddle around with the numbers and find a adequate balance and I will update the ticker accordingly =)

Now to work on Heroes, I am NOT going to make them super dynamic right now... that is just not sane, they can grow in dynamics later. For now I just want to be able to have stats for them and allow them to be send on attacks =) So in the next couple of days if you notice yourself being attacked... hehe, its most likely due to me finishing the system



Upkeep/Income

I did them.. finally.. but I changed something, I made it so instead of destroying buildings you merely went in debt... same with units.. and later I will let the game admin set how much you are allowed in debt before you 'die' xD That way you have a chance to raze the buildings YOU chose in order to get out of debt rather than having them randomly deleted for you :p Same thing with units, if they are making you go in debt then either suicide em or disband them (Will script Subunit disbanding later)

Anyways, now you can develop your kingdoms =) It needs SERIOUS balancing, Kenny its time for you to start some hardcore planning and testing to see if you can find a good balance... because currently you have soaring costs coupled with minimal incomes.. I changed it up a bit to allow survival and haven't yet included Hero upkeep as you stated it to be 1k per level (which is impossible currently, gotta give starting mines etc for new players to afford stuff)

But yeah, so far so good :D

Ticker

Ok, my host cannot offer cron job support so I took the advice of the great people over at rpg-dev.net and made a form of ticker :p

What this does is checks the time elapsed since the last tick, and depending on how much time passes it will update the tick accordingly. It runs the check every time you visit a page :o Therefore, we need alot of activity and this ticker should work fairly well. If nobody goes on warshire for 17 hours for example, then when someone finally does and it runs the check it will do the tick 17 times to catch up. However if it takes more than a day for people to update I haven't yet scripted that in, only hourly difference so far (day difference will be easy to script but I doubt the need will be there)

Anyways, so yeah, currently a ticker is running on warshire =)

Now to script upkeep/income and possibly some networth :p Oh, and I swear.. if you put that Jobs Need Filling news up top again I am gonna delete all staff but me from the staff list x_x
I suggest you shorten it ALOT, leave out the job description since NOBODY will read it all. In the staff area have an area they can goto (a link to another page) and it will display the job description for the different positions =)



Forums and Msgs NOW BBCODE COMPATIBLE!!

Thats right everyone, I finally got em workin xD Just don't use a long word of like 50 characters cuz it will still stretch the table... that is unfixable, all forums have that issue x_x but now if you type out a 200 word essay even without pressing enter it will word wrap it for you and notice enter keys and all the special codes :O I might eventually apply it to the news, but I kinda like having HTML allowed xD hehe

Ok, I have wiped the database, and hopefully won't need to wipe it again for a while xD Ticker still isn't automated, but that is only a matter of time... hopefully x_x

I also added encrypted passwords and account activation, and fixed a bug in the signup xD

w00t, I am happy to report that thus far I have had great success with the ticker... the Building, Unit Training, and Exploration areas have been finished and work now (the ticker isn't automated yet, so I had to manually run the script to test it... before it worked well it messed up the db a bit).. However I can't go any furthur with it until I hear back from my webhost about their policy on cron jobs

Also, I finished the MailingListCP... only my address is on it now, but that will change soon enough :p

Ok, I have finished the Barracks, Buildings, and misc updates everywhere (you will also notice table borders are gone :O) I also finished exploration so now the next thing I need to work on is the ticker, this may take longer than anything else :p
